Keeping It Real

Today, I wrote Dr Phil into a chapter of my book.

He doesn’t actually make an in-person appearance, but it’s been fun to write anyway.  Turns out, he’s the connective tissue that starts a friendship between two teenage girls.

No, I don’t know how I got there either.

But get there I did!  Word goal: 2,500.  Word achievement: 2,800.

Bit of a lower day than yesterday, but this was a linking chapter: a change of pace after an action scene.  Pacing is important to me; after reading a bunch of Matthew Reilly books, I realised that there’s only so many exclamation marks that one man can take.  Reilly’s a successful author, but I finish his books feeling slightly exhausted.

“And then,” is probably something I should avoid too.

Anyway, back to Dr Phil.  I’ve always had a soft spot for Dr Phil after a bout of being bedridden for a week with nothing to do but watch daytime television.  It’s remarkable how he manages to get people to sign up to be on that show and get rigorously ridiculed for an hour.

Brilliance.
