Life Imitates Art

The swear jar.

Spare change by tizwas01.

It’s not a new concept, and not the first time it’s been tried on me.  But by kids?  Yeah, that was new.

I went up to see some friends this weekend, and their spawn were lying in wait.  They’d been so enthused about starting on their retirement savings scheme, that they thought they would get rich of my, er, colourful use of English.  Mercenary little bastards.  I mean that in the nicest way, of course.

Sadly, at least for them, I don’t carry cash.  They had no EFTPOS machine, so weren’t able to work out a deal.  I was inspired though – the swear jar has made an appearance in my writing.

It’s not a big deal, but I like that each day’s writing can be shaped – at least a little – but the things that go on around me.  Much of what I write is pure fancy, but I like to think that little touches of reality – like the swear jar – can add some necessary authenticity.

Oh, yeah.  Today?

Word goal: 2,500.  Word achievement: 2,900.  It’s a little lower than I’d like, but I’d just finished writing something that was a bit sad (…not about the swear jar).  It’s a good point to leave it for the day.
